10 AliExpress Safety Tips To Avoid Being Scammed On The International E-Commerce Platform
We have been bringing to our members’ different types of tactics that scammers have been using to deprive people of their legitimate cash on not only AliExpress but other e-commerce platforms too. Our major aim is to let our members guard against being fleeced of their hard earned income by fraudsters.
There are as many fraudsters as there are legitimate business people on the internet; it therefore depends largely on you to guard yourself against the activities of those marauders.
In this article, we are going to look at ten (10) AliExpress safety tips you need to be aware of and properly understand as you do business on the internet, especially on AliExpress platform.
You will discover that I have always been talking about AliExpress because it is the favorite ecommerce platform for Nigerians. As you may be aware of, Alibaba is a wholesale supplier website where you can interact with and purchase products from suppliers all over the world.
Most small scale business people from Nigeria may not have the capital to buy large quantities of product from Alibaba but you can always buy from AliExpress no matter the quantity you need. In reality, AliExpress can sell one piece of a product to you, but you cannot get that from Alibaba.
As you might have known, AliExpress is another company from the group of Alibaba. It is an online ecommerce store and acts as the retail arm of Alibaba.
It is true that Alibaba is a reputed company, but sometimes the quality of the sellers is not always consistent. A lot of times people have been cheated or have received products of very low quality quite different from what was displayed on the website.
In order to have a good experience from AliExpress, you need to prepare yourself whenever you are dealing with them.
Here are the Safety tips you need to be aware when dealing with AliExpress so that you will avoid being scammed:
Always look at when the store was opened: This tells you when the seller opened his or her shop. If the shop has been on for two years and above it means that the shop has some credibility and to a certain extent, longevity. But if the shop has just been opened for less than two (2) years, the quality and credibility of the shop may have not actually had been tested. Therefore, if you are trying to buy an expensive product or a product that is technology oriented, it is better to go for a shop that has been on for good while.
What is the store’s buyer protection policy? As much as possible, AliExpress has protocols within their platform to protect the buyer from fraudulent sellers. However, when making purchases, you try as much as possible to look at the “Buyer Protection” the seller has put in place himself.
Every seller should at least have the following protections in place:
- Full refund if you do not receive your order.
Full or partial refund if the item is not as described. You are advised to check the “Seller Guarantees” that the seller has in place (always look at the product description) normally put in place by the seller.
Check the Star Rating and Review Feedback: These ratings and reviews are always there, but you really need to be careful when going through the star ratings and reviews. It may interest you to know that reviews with pictures may be more potent or real than those without pictures.
Some buyers upload images of the products they bought and then give their reviews. The feedback page really gives insight on the seller’s product and service. A shop without product reviews may mean that the buyers are not interested or that the product is too insignificant to them trying to waste their time writing reviews. If you have good satisfaction with a product, you will be happy to write a review.
Always check the last reviewed purchase, if it is recent you will know that the product is good and that people are interested in it.
We will continue with the remaining tips in our next article on this topic.
