How To Start Your Own Dropshipping Business In 2022: The Code Has Been Cracked For You – Answers To Critical Operational Questions
As we are discussing in this article right now, many people are searching frantically for ways to create passive income or how to generate more income streams for themselves. The country is truly hard and things are no more the way they used to be. Single incomes are no more enough for anybody; people are now looking for more income streams.
Over several years gone by, dropshipping has positioned itself as a popular and profitable option for people seeking more streams of income.
But a lot of people tend to drop out of the business due to low profits, having great difficulty in finding quality suppliers, or simply the stress of managing large orders on their laps.
But dropshipping has the capability of turning into a highly profitable business if you can be patient and do it the right way.
This is how dropshipping works in real life: an entrepreneur, which can be you for example; you set up a website, or what you can call an online store, where you intend to be selling some products.
You will not be keeping those products as stock in your store or warehouse whatsoever. Instead, when a customer visits your online store and orders a product, you the dropshipper immediately purchase the product from a supplier you know, and you have them shipped directly to the customer.
This is simply the way the business works. There are no complications embedded into the business structure per se, but let us ask a real dropshipper if there are things we need to be aware of in real life. Her name is Joy Ifedimma from Enugu state, Nigeria.
Q: Joy, please what do you think that first-time entrepreneurs in the dropshipping business should know?
A: They should know that they are getting into a business model that has the capability of changing their lives forever. I will advise them that if they are not getting sales, they should not attach themselves to a particular product; they should just move on and sell something else.
Q: What are some of the challenges you faced as you were trying to develop your dropshipping business?
A: Sincerely speaking, I almost gave up on dropshipping as I was doing it over and over again without getting far. I was discouraged but on a second thought I said to myself, this thing that you are doing someone has done it successfully before, why not seek help from them? I then asked around and got help.
As I asked for help and got it, I was taught so much that I now understood a lot about dropshipping. I learnt marketing strategies and cognitive biases that explain why people buy products in the first place. As I talk to you now, I sell products that are even of a higher value than $1,000.
Q: How do you know what products to sell?
A: The first place I normally visit is Google Trends to see if a product is demanded that much to warrant my time and to know if it is just a trendy product. There are a lot of tools in the market that will tell you from the beginning how much you will be spending per click on Google or facebook Ads.
Q: How long did it take you to start seeing results?
A: It depends on some factors, such as the product you are promoting, the niche, and ad spend. If you have done your research and are sure that the product has a good search volume and most importantly that the cost per click is low, you will then expect to make sales between two to five days on the average.
Q: When you are not seeing results, how do you know when to call it quits with a product and switch to another product or even try another supplier?
A: Truthfully, the only way you can know is by tracking specific metrics. The metrics I use mostly are: the search volume per month – the product must have a minimum of 100,000 searches a month – a cost per click of less than $1.50. With these metrics I have always made sales.
Again, if you have been getting traffic to your site but no sales, and it has been more than three days, you need to switch your products. But if you are getting Add to Carts, but not getting purchases, you will have to use retargeting/remarketing to encourage those abandoned carts to make the final purchase.
The business is not going away soon, therefore if this is the business model you are interested in going into, I encourage you to do so now.
